What is Distance Reiki and How Does it Work?

The concept of healing from a distance can be difficult to grasp. I’ll admit, when I first encountered distance Reiki, I was skeptical too! How could an invisible force travel from Pennsylvania to Tennessee in an instant and have the same impact as if I were sitting directly across from someone?

I know, it seems to challenge everything we’ve been taught about the importance of proximity and physicality in healing; and it certainly adds another layer of complexity to the world of energy, which continues to defy our human frameworks and understanding.

The world of energy is so vast and has an intelligence so well beyond us that it is hard for our human minds to fully grasp.  However, just for a moment, I invite you to surrender to the infinite possibilities of the energy world, adopt a curious mind, and allow yourself to consider the possibility of this ancient, wise energy not being limited to our human boundaries of time, space or distance. It works beyond the physical plane.

If it’s hard to rationalize with your mind, perhaps the best way to understand it is through experience. Distance Reiki can be a profound way to discover just how this powerful this energy truly is.

How Does Distance Reiki Work?

While each practitioner may have their own approach to distance healing, most distance Reiki sessions begin with the practitioner entering a meditative state and using visualization. The practitioner may visualize the recipient as if they are right in front of them, performing the same Reiki healing they would in a physical session. In other cases, they may use a proxy symbol or image to represent the person in need of healing.

The recipient of Distance Reiki may be lying down, relaxed, and open to receiving the energy. They might even feel the same sensations they would in a physical session, despite the practitioner being miles away. Remember, sensations are not necessary to validate that the energy is working. Energy transcends our human "see it to believe it" mindset, and it operates regardless of our sensory perception.

Distance Reiki can also be sent to groups of people, animals, or the Earth.

The Power of Distance Reiki

What makes Reiki so effective is the use of specific symbols that practitioners utilize to amplify the energy. One of these is the Distance Reiki Symbol, which intensifies the energy and ensures it reaches its intended recipient.

Interestingly, while it may enhance the experience for the recipient to be lying down at the same time the practitioner is performing the session, this is not required. Reiki energy will still work, no matter the recipient’s position during the session.

As mentioned earlier, Reiki transcends not only space, but also time. This is why you can watch a YouTube video of a practitioner sending healing energy and still feel its effects in the present moment—even if the video was recorded years ago.

Scientific Considerations to Support Distance Reiki

To my knowledge, there is not yet conclusive scientific understanding of the full mechanics of Distance Reiki. However, advancements in Quantum Physics do offer intriguing considerations that may help explain its principles. Reiki operates on the belief that Life Force Energy flows through all living beings and therefore, we are all interconnected.

Quantum Entanglement is a phenomenon in quantum physics where particles become connected in such a way that the state of one can instantly affect the state of the other, no matter the distance between them. This challenges the conventional understanding of space and time and opens up possibilities for understanding how energy—like Reiki—could flow beyond physical boundaries.

While we can’t yet prove a direct link, this concept of instant, distance-based interaction aligns with Reiki’s belief in the universal interconnectedness of all life, suggesting that energy healing may work on a deeper, more interconnected level

Note: While Quantum Entanglement presents an interesting theory, it should be noted that its connection to Reiki and distance healing is still highly speculative and not supported by conclusive scientific evidence. This theory, though intriguing, is an area where more research is needed to understand whether or not it could apply to energy healing practices.

Consent in Reiki

Consent is especially important in Distance Reiki, when the receiver is not physically present. It is important to remember that although Reiki energy is pure, loving, and meant to heal, it cannot be received without the recipient’s consent. This happens at an astral level. We all have our own energetic fields that are constantly working, whether or not we’re aware of them. Imagine it like this: When Reiki energy is sent to you, it’s like a knock on the door of your energy field, which ultimately decides whether or not to let the healing energy in. Reiki's ethics respect free will, so nothing, not even Reiki, can be forced upon you without your permission.
